Gastronomy | Tea, Sake, Food

Join Scott Movens and Tommy Chen for a creative tasting highlighting the intersection of food, tea, and sake. Guests will receive a four course meal exploring all three themes, emphasizing the commonalities and complimentary nature of tea and sake. Discover unique flavor combinations and ways that food, tea, and sake can build upon each other to create deeper flavors.

Come taste aged tea from the 70’s, rare sakes from a sommelier’s private collection, and other special drinks you won’t get anywhere else. Experience premium teas brewed using traditional, time-intensive methods typically unavailable at cafes in DC. Sake service will include special seasonal offerings, some of which will be carefully prepared warm with Scott’s expertise.

Tommy was the tea director at the now closed Two Nine Cafe in Georgetown. He specializes in Japanese teas and teaches matcha whisking, sensory tasting, and loose leaf brewing.

Scott Movens is a sake expert and educator based in Washington DC with years of experience teaching about and serving sake. He is known as a warm sake expert and has multiple sake sommelier certifications, including WSET Level 3 with distinction, Sake Scholar, and Certified Sake Professional.

Aside from the above tasting menu, walk-ins will be available starting at 2:00 for a sake and tea lounge. Guests will be able to order a wide variety of special teas selected and prepared by Tommy as well as unique sakes selected by Scott. Limited food will be available as well.
